Annie Oakley Motel
Annie Oakley was a sharpshooter who became famous with the Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. She was also a dear friend of Chief Sitting Bull who defeated General Custer's troops at Little Bighorn. While she did perform in Lawrence, Wichita, Topeka and Kansas City, I can find no record of her ever being in the town of Oakley, Kansas. Never the less, the Annie Oakley Motel uses a stylized illustration of this remarkable woman on their eye-catching sign.
