Holiday Holly

Holly has been used in through the ages in festivals and celebrations. During the celebration of Saturnalia, ancient Romans decorated their home with holly clippings. The Celtic peoples of Gaul used holly sprigs in sacred rights and believed it provided protection from evil spirits. Today, Christians have adopted the holly tree as a symbol for Christmas. The evergreen quality of the holly tree is seen by some as a metaphor for eternal life. We like to think it symbolizes everything wonderful about the spirit of the season.
