Blue Swallow Motel
The Blue Swallow is a classic motor court established in 1939 on historic Route 66 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. When I visited, I was awe-struck by the pink stucco exterior facade as well as the vintage lamps and period furniture in the rooms - it felt like I had walked into my grandmother's living room in 1957. Most evenings, travelers still sit in colorful retro lawn chairs outside each room, much as they did in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. The Blue Swallow is a wonderful way to step back in time.
